If I was starting out on a career now, I would have a really long look at all the tv programmes on that concern criminals, lawyers, judges etc. and see if any of those inspired me. I do know of a young woman who was besotted with watching one particular crime based programme. She was always fascinated by the forensic side of the investigation. This led her to write a good essay once on that very subject. Her English teacher clearly recognising a talent for absorbing ‘facts’ and being able to accurately relay them back, suggested she make investigations of her own – into a career in either forensic sciences or criminology. This highlights two things – that youngsters are very easily swayed by tv and teachers can make such a difference to the outcome of a child’s initial thoughts – pushing and coaching willing subjects who listen and take action until success is assured!
